Laparoscopic Findings in Patients with Pelvic Pain

Abstract
The laparoscope is a .valuable clinical tool that has changed the, practice of gynecology. It can confirm a clinical impression, establish a definite diagnosis, follow the course of a disease, and modify therapy. Certain, operative. procedures. (such as tubal steriliwation, uterine suspension, ovarian cyst aspiration, and biopsy of intraperitoneal structures) can De accomplished through the laparoscope.
Laparoscopy can be an option to an exploratory laparotomy, e.g., for patients with pelvic gain as their primary complaint, the laparoscope can be a useful diagnostic tool. In spite :)f sophisticated radilologic and sonographic instruments, pelvic conditions, such as endometriosis and adhesions, can be best confirmed by laparoscopy.
We have reviewed 95 charts of consecutive patients who had a diagnostic laparoscopy For pelvic pain from March 1, 1990, to February 28, 1991 in Chosun University hospital. The indications for performing laparoscopy in these cases were suspected ectopic pregnancy, PID, pelvic adhesion, myoma, ovarian tumorm endometriosis and others. The accuracy :)f the clinical diagnosis confirmed by laparoscopy was 473%, ectopic pregnancy were the most common pathology accounting for 22.1 % and pelvic adhesion was the second common pathology accounting for 16.9%.
In case of chrionic pelvic pain. pelvic adhesion was the most common finding. We feel that diagnostic laparoscopy is an extrememly valuable adjunct in the gynecologist¢¥s armamentarium for evaluation pelvic pain.
